Dr. Benny Peiser of the Global Warming Policy Foundation to Headline Friends of Science 10th Annual Luncheon in May   By PRWEB

Calgary, Alberta, Canada (PRWEB) February 14, 2013

Friends of Science are pleased to announce that climate change policy expert Dr. Benny Peiser, director of the Global Warming Policy Foundation in the UK, will be the guest speaker at the upcoming 10th Annual Luncheon, May 14, 2013 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Benny Peiser is the founder and editor (since 1997) of CCNet, the worlds leading climate policy network. Benny is a social scientist and a Visiting Fellow at the University of Buckingham. His research focuses on the effects of environmental change and catastrophic events on contemporary thought and societal evolution. A 10km-wide asteroid, Minor Planet (7107) Peiser, was named in his honor by the International Astronomical Union.

Dr. Benny Peiser is outspoken on how climate change policies devastate the poor and middle class. In a 2010 interview with the Jewish Telegraph, Dr. Peiser said: ...a lot of scares are overdone and are not helping a proper debate in a democratic culture. A growing number of the environmental movement now realize that a lot of the claims have unintended consequences, which are economically, morally dubious."

Friends of Science president Len Maier points out: People protesting the alleged catastrophic impact of the oil sands and Keystone XL Pipeline claim that clean tech will ensure livelihoods and cleaner living. Dr. Peiser will detail the evidence from Europe. The much-vaunted clean tech has plunged their society into fuel poverty and unemployment.

Catastrophe thinking is an area of study that Dr. Peiser has engaged in for much of his career as a social anthropologist. His approach is refreshing, if challenging to certain colleagues: One of the most powerful drivers of environmental gloominess and cultural pessimism is the specter of ecological apocalypse. The mutation of age-old, religious end-time prophecies into secular predictions of natural cataclysms and societal collapse in short, the emergence of environmental apocalypticism is perhaps the most significant ideological development in the western world since the demise of Marxism.

Ken Gregory, P. Eng. and a director of Friends of Science agrees saying, Americans are being held hostage to faulty science and climate catastrophe cult thinking. Declining upper atmosphere water vapor, the most important greenhouse gas, counteracts the effect of CO2. The sun is the main driver of climate change. Not CO2. Therefore the argument against Keystone XL is moot."

World governments have based climate change policies on unsupportable IPCC predictions by the UN Climate Panel IPCC Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The IPCC computer modelled predictions have been proven wrong by the scientific evidence. says Maier.

Look around the world at the places in chaos. An underlying issue is lack of jobs. Keystone XL offers quality work to thousands of people with the highest environmental standards in the world. Work provides prosperity and peace as opposed to chaos and despair, Maier continues.

Indeed reports show that United Kingdom citizens are now faced with a heat or eat crisis due to the sharp rise in electricity rates. This increase is due to a combination of shutting down reliable, coal-fired power plants that deliver inexpensive electricity while subsidizing the building of clean tech wind farms. Considering all costs, wind power is about three times as expensive as natural gas fired electrical power.

Dr. Peisers presentation in Calgary will bring an air of optimism and grounded reality based on his study of centuries of human activity and crisis management as he has written in the past: is beyond doubt that a number of complex societies fell apart during the last 4000 years. ... Most unsuccessful ancient societies recovered after a period of marked decline and regularly emerged more robust and dynamic.

Regarding the Keystone XL catastrophic protests, Friends of Science president Len Maier concludes: Democracy demands that there be open public debate on this issue and that the Scientific Method be applied."

About the Friends of Science

A group of mostly retired earth and atmospheric scientists, professional engineers and geologists, Friends of Science has been reviewing peer-reviewed science on climate change for over a decade and their conclusion is that the sun is the main driver of climate change cycles, not you or CO2.
