With a goal of increasing financial literacy and helping its customers live the rich life, financial education expert and founder of The Rich Dad Company, Robert Kiyosaki, and his team of experts provide financial education to millions of people worldwide. The company's mantra is "Knowledge is the New Money," and everything they do has the common goal of increasing financial knowledge around the globe through books, seminars, videos, coaching, social media, innovative technology and even a board and Web game. However, the company's biggest draw is always Robert's live stage presentations.
A jam packed schedule of appearances takes Robert and his team around the globe. Averaging over a dozen stage presentations a year, Robert is invited to speak at leading international financial summits as well as delivering his own personal training sessions. No matter what type of event, it's executive producer Brett Bottesch's responsibility to manage the live stage presentations and ensure appearances are available live to Robert's numerous fans regardless of location.
From Russia with Love
When it came time for Robert to deliver his first ever seminar in Russia, the company decided to provide a Facebook Livestream of the presentation. With over 500,000 Facebook fans, all of Robert's followers would be able to access the presentation free of charge and from virtually any location.
"In the past, we used a third party to stream the events for us, and it was not only costing us money, but the fans were being charged to access the content," said Brett. "We came to the conclusion that we could do it ourselves, save money, reach more viewers and provide fans with free access to the presentation. It was a win win situation."
The seminar was held in Moscow in front of 5,300 attendees and was captured in a multicam HD broadcast built around an SDI workflow. To capture the action directly into a Thunderbolt Macbook where it could then be streamed to the world live, Brett used Blackmagic Design's UltraStudio 3D Thunderbolt based capture and playback device.
During the presentation, three cameras were run through a switcher with an SDI connection to the UltraStudio 3D, which was connected via Thunderbolt to a Mac. An analog audio feed was brought in through the UltraStudio 3D as well via a breakout cable. Running Livestream on the Mac, Brett was able to broadcast the presentation live on Facebook.
UltraStudio 3D is a portable, Thunderbolt based capture and playback device for SDI, HDMI and analog. It features full resolution dual stream 3D support, 12 bit hardware architecture, dual link 3 Gb/s SDI, support for up to 1080p60 in SDI and component analog and full SD, HD and 2K support.
According to Brett: "As a company, we like to keep up with technology, so I knew the UltraStudio 3D with Thunderbolt was the way to go. Especially as this was a live event, we needed fast and reliable access. The UltraStudio 3D picked up the audio and video quickly and cleanly. We couldn't afford any connection issues."
Easier Than It Looks
"This was our first Facebook live stream from another country, so there were some challenges," said Brett. "In traveling there, we didn't want to transport crates of gear from our office in Scottsdale, AZ all the way to Moscow."
According to Brett, when considering different options for how to capture and playback the footage, he realized he didn't need a lot of equipment to do what he needed to do, just the UltraStudio 3D. The UltraStudio 3D's compact form also made the trip from the United States to Russia much easier.
"Without the UltraStudio 3D, it would have cost much more, and traveling would have been much harder," said Brett.
When back at the office, Brett also uses the UltraStudio 3D for his Final Cut Pro edit bay, allowing him to playback and send clips to the many different monitors, in any format he needs.
"I'm excited about the UltraStudio 3D and how we've been able to change up our workflow and further embrace social media," said Brett. "With it, The Rich Dad Company can share more knowledge and connect with more fans regardless of location, and we look forward to using it for more events around the globe."
