Washington, DC (PRWEB) December 10, 2012

The United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA) and its network of more than 120 Chapters across the United States are celebrating Human Rights Day today with events in more than 40 communities. Presentations, film screenings, and educational sessions are just some of the many activities being hosted.

Chapter hosted events will help highlight the UNs work in advancing and upholding human rights around the world, and engage participants in supporting the advancement of human rights.

This Human Rights Day, we recognize how critical it is that we all stand up for human rights and support the work being done around the world to protect our rights, said Patrick Madden, executive director, UNA-USA. For more than 50 years, the UN has been the leader in helping uphold human rights worldwide; UNA-USA is proud to celebrate this day in communities across the United States.

Experts on a variety of human rights related issues will be speaking to Chapters and their guests. Topics include: the Millennium Development Goals; U.S.-UN relations; genocide; and womens rights. Information on all UNA-USA Human Rights Day events can be found at http://www.unausa.org/humanrightsday.

Beyond Human Rights Day, UNA-USA supports the UNs human rights efforts throughout the year through the Leo Nevas Program on Human Rights. The program helps mobilize UNA-USA resources to help the UN take a more effective role in human rights, as well as get the U.S. more involved in the UNs human rights efforts.
