Syracuse, NY (PRWEB) December 12, 2012, the official English-language consumer website for Parmigiano Reggiano® cheese is supporting the Record Pizza Men in the creation of the worlds largest, gluten-free pizza on December 13, 2012. The event will be held in Italy at Fiera di Roma and is organized by Fiera di Roma and NIPfood. Sponsors include the Consorzio del Formaggio Parmigiano-Reggiano, who is donating four wheels of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese to be used as a topping.

The pizza is to be prepared by chefs Matthew Giannotte, Dovilo Nardi, Andrea Mannocchi, Marco Nardi and Matthew Nardi. They have named this great pizza Ottavia which derives from the number 8 and is symbolic for infinity in tribute to the historic nature of the event.

The pizza will span 40 meters (130 feet) in diameter and a total of 1256 square meters (4082 square feet). It will weigh in at 23 tonnellate (23,000 kilos or 50,600 pounds). Total cost of the pizza in food products: 65,000 euros or about $84,500 US.
