Tablet Pressure Finally?

The Pogo Connect is the first stylus that allows its user to use pressure sensitivity with a touch screen device.  Previously code-named the Blue Tiger Project, the pen promises to change the way artists interact with their portable devices.

Ten One Design has created stylus pens for touch screen devices in the past.  The company is familiar with the popularity of there previous pogo stylus products, and it's no question that artists all over have been looking for something that will convert their portable device into a robust tablet experience.  What's been missing is the ability to express fluid pressure with a stylus.

Although the company is only 5 years old, it has the remarkable ability to introduce the first pressure sensitive stylus for iPad.

The pen doesn't use the stylus tip to directly interact with the surface of the touch screen device (iPads aren't made like that yet), but, instead, the stylus emits a signal to the mobile device through Bluetooth 4.0.

The pen has a method to convey the drawing called the Crescendo Sensor, which supposedly makes the tip sensitive enough to understand the slightest pressure, multiple angles, and hundreds of pressure variations.  The tip was designed to have a magnetic connector, which will supposedly make it easy to replace and possibly upgrade when/if the pen gets a hardware revision.

Currently, the Pogo Connect is supported by a number of apps.  Brushes, Zen Brush, PDFpen, Procreate, Flipbook HD, Sketch Club, SketchBook Pro, Art Studio, Good Notes, Colors, Paper by FiftyThree, Noteshelf, NotePad Pro, NoteBinder, IbisPaint, and ArtRage.

Both SketchBook Pro and Art Rage are professional grade applications, which will certainly have an audience eager to be impressed by the new pen.  However, we haven't seen how much of the software will take advantage of the pressure sensitivity.

Unlike the other pogo pens, the Connect will require a AAA battery to operate.  Not only does the pen require Bluetooth connectivity to be powered, but there will also be an LED light and built in radio transmitter (which transmits a signal).

Pogo Connect is available as a pre-order for $79.95.   For more information on Pogo Connect, please visit TenOneDesign.com/PogoConnect.
