ProAct Safety President Delivers Keynote at First-Ever International Safety Leadership Conference in Azerbaijan By PRWEB

The president of ProAct Safety, an industry leader in safety excellence strategies, helped provide a blueprint for a safety excellence strategy at the first-ever Safety Leadership International Conference for a western Asian nation. Shawn M. Galloway, president and chief operating officer of ProAct Safety, was opening keynote speaker for the Azerbaijan International Safety Leadership Conference. The event, sponsored by the Rovshan Oguz Group was held in December 2012 at the JW Marriott Absheron Hotel in the Capital city of Baku.

The scheduling of the conference in the former Soviet Republic was highly appropriate, Galloway said, due to the nations burgeoning oil and gas industry. Enterprises in Azerbaijan are in great need of information, resources and guidance in the development and implementation of workplace safety and health programs. This was an opportunity to share best practices of many of the greatest safety-performing companies throughout the world.

As the keynote presenter, Galloway said his role was to challenge and advance thinking about safety excellence in the region and provide strategies, tactics and overall thinking processes to help attendees improve safety performance and culture.

Richard Pollock, CSP, president of the American Society of Safety Engineers, said Galloways presentations provided excellent insight on safety leadership. His presentation of the various models for leadership were useful, but his depth of understanding and examples were particularly valid, Pollock added. In the Q&A session, he provided excellent guidance on how one achieves cultural excellence, which is particularly difficult in this age of transformation.

The international conference was unique, Galloway said, in that it was the first such conference in the countrys history and was created by private enterprise, not the government. About 150 international business, safety and government officials were in attendance at the conference.

Industry support for the conference was key, said presenter Subash Ludhra, CFIOSH, immediate past president of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).

I was very pleased to see the initiative and leadership taken by the owners of a private contractor to organize the first safety leadership conference in Baku, Ludhra said. The number and quality of the audience was impressive and demonstrated a keenness of the industries present to learn and improve. Azerbaijans economy is growing rapidly, and all employers need to ensure the health, safety and welfare of their employees wherever they are. I sincerely hope this conference acts as a catalyst for significant improvement in the area of occupational health and safety in Azerbaijan.
