Self Publishing Podcast Hosts Offer Free Blog Setups to Help Writers Find Readers   By PRWEB

Cincinnati, Ohio (PRWEB) November 19, 2012

On his way to becoming a mini-celebrity in the blog world, Self Publishing Podcast co-host Johnny B. Truant set up WordPress blogs for hundreds of clients, free of charge. He has since retired from the services business. However, as he announced on a recent episode, in order to help budding writers and others build their audiences, Truant is once again offering free blog setups thru the end of November.

Truants decision is largely in response to an interest expressed by Self Publishing Podcast listeners.

Probably the most common question we get, he says, is Whats the best way to get more readers?

Truant says the answer is blogging. He and fellow online-marketing experts have used blogs to launch successful careers both for themselves and for countless others who have sought their help over the years.

I think blogging is nearly essential, says Truant. The ideal way to promote yourself is through an email address list, and having a blog allows you to collect those addresses.

Truant attributes the need for a blog presence to a shift in the way readers find out about new books. It used to be that you would write something, a publisher would put it out into the world for you, and your audience would find you, he says. Now, ninety-nine percent of writers have to find their audience first and bring them to their work.

Imagine going to Barnes & Noble and looking at all those spines of books, Truant continues. If you dont have a personal recommendation or already know what author youre looking for, the chances of you picking up one of those books--no matter how great it is--are almost nil because theres too much out there. As an author, you need to give people a reason to find you. Thats what blogging is for; it allows you to build an audience of people who like your writing and your vibe.

Truant and Self Publishing Podcast co-hosts Sean Platt and David Wright advise authors to choose the right audience when developing their blogs.

Dont write for other writers, says Platt. Thats the number-one blogging mistake I see writers make. Weve all done it.

Truant, himself, has built a devoted fan base and respectable mailing list through his blog posts on marketing, personal development, and other subjects. However, although some of these fans have followed him to his fiction books, he expects that he would have converted more readers had the subject matter of his blog and books been more compatible.

David Wright agrees and advises that writers instead focus on blogging for people who are fans of the genre or subject matter of their books.

You should blog about something related to what youre writing in your books, says Wright. For example, if your books are something that fans of the TV show, Lost, would love, write about Lost or a similar show thats out there today. Offer weekly updates and become known as the expert on that show. You can write about other things, too, but focus on a niche that appeals to your target readers.

Truant, Platt, and Wright encourage authors and anyone else who needs an audience to follow this advice and pursue Truants offer before it expires. Since people will need a place to host their blog, Truant will connect them with an inexpensive hosting provider (about $5 per month), after which hell set up their blog for free and provide them with helpful instructions to take the guesswork out of using their new blog.

Truant stresses that this offer is only available for new blogs and new hosting plans acquired through his website.

Due to numerous other commitments, Truant will only provide this service thru November 30. For more information and to sign up, visit
