Wet and Wintery Weather Doesnt Have to Result in Construction Site Delays Report Ground Protection Solution Experts Timbermat   By PRWEB

(PRWEB UK) 27 December 2012

Ground protection solution providers, Timbermat Ltd, who supplied ground protection mats during the London 2012 Olympic Games, and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are recommending companies build in strategic measures to avoid losses due to construction site accidents and weather related interruptions.

According to the Met Office 21% of construction firms lost eleven to twenty days as a result of weather related delays and a further 16% lost up to fifty days.

Accidents increase during the autumn and winter seasons for a number of reasons, warns the HSE on its website.

One solution for many of the countrys leading construction companies is the use of ground protection mats, which enable them to keep work on schedule during December, January and February and minimise the risk of weather related site accidents.

Timber mats can easily be laid over ground in almost any condition, quickly and simply creating a surface which offers a level plane for workers and vehicles with good traction, says Timbermats Managing Director, John Roberts.

The mats have a low intrinsic value, meaning they don't increase security or insurance requirements, and are durable enough to leave open to all weather conditions. Mr Roberts also recommends grass protection mats to increase grip and to help the ground below to remain in good condition until the work is completed.

Portable roadways have been providing some much-needed stability to waterlogged building sites in recent weeks, but with the nation waking to widespread frost and icy conditions in the coming months, temporary roadways could soon be offering some grip for plant vehicles' tyres, too.

Rainfall, or even run-off of melt water from snow, does not have to halt work provided that portable roadways are available to cover over the worst-affected areas, and create a temporary roadway for vehicles to use safely, advises Mr Roberts.
