iPiSoft Motion CaptureMore uses for your E3 Kinect and Sony PS Eye
Many of you at E3 have already started to fill out your shopping list with the newest titles for your gaming time, but there is more software that will let you take advantage of your gaming hardware. Make your own movies with your Microsoft Kinect or multiple Sony PS Eye cameras. iPiSoft makes motion capture software that allows you to translate your acting into a 3D character.

Chances are that you've already seen the bonus features of your favorite special effects movie, which may have included behind-the-scenes footage of someone in a suit of pingpong ball looking markers. You probably already saw how that data was translated from an actor to a 3D character. iPiSoft does something similar - but without the markers.
Armed with a Kinect, PC, and the iPiSoft software (Express or Standard vary), you can record your motions and translate those into data that 3D software can interpret as animation (fbx, bvh, COLLADA and many others natively: http://wiki.ipisoft.com/Animation_export_and_motion_transfer#COLLADA).
iPiSoft isn't for someone who wants 3 options and big buttons to derive a solution. This is professional level software. However, in its current version, it's a more nimble solution for studios who want the experience of gross action mocap within an affordable package.
BIG LAZY ROBOT Studios in Barcelona is taking advantage of iPiSoft software in order to create some of the great scenes in their upcoming movie "Keloid".

1k0 made a short teaser called "Danse Kabyle" using the software, and shows the process in a two part "making of" which is as fun to watch as the finished project.

It's obvious that the hardware that we find at gaming industry standards like E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) is finding much more serious purpose with software like iPiSoft. The availability of this software will help to expand the capabilities of filmmakers everywhere.
You can find hardware like Microsoft Kinect or Sony's PS Eye in your favorite game store, but for iPiSoft software, you'll have to go online to http://ipisoft.com/. Log in, and you can get a free 30-day trial. If you want to continue learning the software, you can continue to use the software after 30 days without exporting the data.
