I posted this over at Post Forum, but there doesn't seem to be much activity these days, so I just remembered about this forum.
I've been trying to get my head around the Spline Rail Deformer. I just don't get it. The manual isn't doing it for me and I can't seem to find any good tutorials online. Anyone have any tips on understanding this feature? I think the part I most have trouble with is the planes. I can get one spline to add a curve to a shape, but when I add a straight one on the others side, it either does nothing or makes my object look like a bow tie. (a couple hours later...)
I almost got it on my own. I had to flip one of the splines to fix the twisted bow tie problem. What I have is the letter "O" (oval shape) that's a mesh object. From one side only, I want the bottom to remain straight and the top (thickness) to slope down on the ends. I can't keep the other sides from deforming. The X Spline Top and Bottom doesn't seem to have any affect. I've tried messing with all the settings. What's the best way to learn how this deformer works? I'm not 100% with understanding XZ Plane, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Alex
