Hey wilder, unfortunately no, there is no way to kern the letters in the text object. It's a big complaint, and makes it almost worthless for designers.

Luckily there is the fracture object. that can be used with illustrator imports to make them work with mograph put your extrude nurb under that object and set the mode in the object properties to allow the regular effectors to move the individual letters or polygons depending on what you need.
