SUBJECT: Can I replace a cassette deck with a PC and CDs?

I want to replace a cassette deck with a PC. That means a button to record, a button to play, a button to rewind, and a button to fast-forward. If I record over a piece, the previous piece goes away. A piece counter and a time counter would be nice. That's all. No gothic graphics, no drum machines, no flanging simulations. I don't want to have to climb over all of that crap every time I use the thing. I just want a recorder that will produce CDs, which presumably will be better-sounding than cassettes.
Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? Tell me what I need.
Hilary
