A couple of things:
First, if you just copy the videotape to another machine, the copy should might work where the original didn't, due to tracking problems.
In future, if you still want to use the DX 900, remember, it's capable of simultaneous hi-fi recording that also sounds pretty damn good, so if the tape's PCM recording has got problems, then the hi fi recording may not.
