I have been wrestling with a very weird problem for too long now and am desperate. I have to replicate the DVD 500 times and need to be sure it works perfect!
Here's the situation:
I made a DVD project which starts with a videotrack with 2 pct files (copyright and openingstitle), then jumps to a language select menu (English - Spanish). After clicking on the language you get another slideshow with two opening text slides in the right language), then jumping to the mainmenu of the chosen language.
The mainmenu has a play all button and the 5 separate chapters and a link to the extras menu in the same language. I first authored the DVD using scripts to set the language path (GPRM0=1 or GPRM0=0), which I learned from a tutorial (haven't scripted before)
The following problem occurred: the simulation works perfect, the build also (log doesn't give errors), then playing the VIDEO_TS map directly from the Hard Drive with DVD player (Mac) works perfect.
But then, burning the VIDEO_TS map on a DVD, it works fine on the MacPro and a stand alone Sony DVD player, but gives problems on the MacBook (double questionmark ?? in the left upper corner when starting a submenu, slideshow or videotrack, and on the JVC stand alone player it often freezes upon language selection (mostly with English, but not always). It also takes a short while in which you can hear the DVD searching or loading the disc in which it sounds like there are three actions being done. With the Mac DVD player I also noticed the message 'omitiendo areas dañados' (means omitting harmed areas) in the same left upper corner right at the point where the JVC player freezes (after clicking the English selection button).
After trying to find out what the problem was and people advising me not to script if I haven't done it before (even though some experts I know checked the scripts and found them to be correct), I then decided to rebuild the project a bit, cutting out all scripts and using more stories to author the video.
Before I linked the play all button to the main timeline in which I added the 5 videos with 5 chapterpoints, linking the play chapter buttons to stories with the right chapter point. Now, I linked the play all button to a story with the first chapter, which end jumps to a separate timeline with a 15sec introduction of the presenter), which then end jumps to the next story with the 2nd chapter, etc.
For the chapter buttons I linked to the 15sec. introduction video, which end jumps to a story with the right chapter point, end jumping back to the main menu.
Anyways, after getting this working in the simulation, a perfect build and burn, the same thing happens! So, it weren't the scripts. Might it have to do with the stories? A friend who I emailed the project (which he linked to short video clips he had on his computer) got the exact same problem, so I guess bitrates is not the issue (there is about 3:45 hours of material on the DVD in total) because I tried to throw away all the video and replace it by 2min. pct files. Same isse.
I AM DESPERATE! I have to get this DVD to the replication house but am afraid to deliver it with the current problem that occurs in some of the players (my friend had the issue on 1 of the 3 stand alone players he has at his work). If somebody knows this issue, PLEASE help me solving it!
