I am trying to create a PDF from a Word document that has a table of contents page as the first page. I would like the table of contents to become bookmarks in the PDF. Is this possible? I am using Distiller 4.0

Thanks

Brett

Acrobat will preserve any hyperlinks made in a Word document, so the trick is to make bookmarks and hyperlinks in your Word doc.

Start by making bookmarks out of each chapter heading or the first para of each chapter. Highlight the text, go to the Insert menu, and choose Bookmark. Name each bookmark logically, ie - Chap1, Chap2, Chap3, etc.

Next, go back to your table of contents page. Highlight the text that you wish to make hyperlinks out of (Chapter 1 - Title Text), and go to the Insert menu and choose Hyperlink (or hit CTRL-K.) In the Hyperlink menu, choose to link to a "Place In This Document" (left hand buttons on the window.) This will bring up the list of bookmarks you created previously. Select the bookmark to link to by double-clicking. Rinse and repeat :)

Once you run distiller, those links will be preserved in the new document.

Hope this helps, please let me know.
