How do you export text with a transparent background in AE CS3?

create your comp with text over a transparent background and then make sure you're rending RGB+Alpha to a codec or file format that supports Alpha Channels.

by default, the background is transparent. if you place a solid in the background, then you will be unable to export a movie that contains useable alpha channel.

Thank you so much! I am now able to export text with an alpha channel. I think the main issue had to do with Premultipled (Matted) and Straight (Unmatted). They both work, I just had to have the correct setting in my editing software for each to work. Thanks again.
