SUBJECT: no audio playback from timeline in PPro 1.5
Hi. Two questions here and very grateful for response to either or both. It's been a long time since I've used PPro 1.5, back when I used to do video production with a real camera, but just shot some quick and dirty clips with a Flip Cam and then converted them to avi so I could edit them in PPro. After importing the clip, I see the audio icon and also can hear the audio when I just play back the clip, but when I drag to timeline and either scrub, or render for playback - there is no audio at all. Anyone know how to fix?

Second thing is I used to do my editing on a big ole desktop workhorse and am now on an acer laptop that should have enough of everything to do the job, but unless I render each clip on the timeline first, playback in the monitor is choppy. Also just simple playback of the clip (not from timeline is super choppy). I remember that this version used to have real time playback without rendering, and smooth playback if you just double clicked on the clip, but neither seem to be working for me very well. Any suggestions on what settings to use to make this smoother? All help appreciated! thx.

Is this HD or SD?  I believe that HD can't be viewed in real time on computer without rendering or without a real tme card to view it.

It's SD. Flip Ultra - 2nd Generation. Because PPro doesn't import Mp4, I converted it through a trial version of DoremiSoft Flip Video Converter (which works nicely btw) to an AVI.

Unfortunately, none of the 3 AVI options (DivX, Xvid or Raw Video) would play back audio when the clip is on the timeline. It plays back (though stuttery - hence my second question) in the playback monitor and the audio icon is visible in the project window, so I know the audio is there - just won't play from timeline. Any ideas why or how to fix much appreciated!

It's been awhile for PP 1.5 for me, but have tried converting the flip video to mpeg2 and then importing it?

Thanks for suggestion - just tried it twice and both times it imported fine in to project window, but when I double clicked on it to play back OR tried to drag it to the timeline, it froze the program. Other ideas? ;-}

#1  Did you check the PP Preference, Audio Hardware settings to check for the correct audio hardware?  #2 Sometimes the audio takes a while to conform and you can't hear anything until the clip is done.  Sorry for the freezes.
