SUBJECT: SURVERY TIME!
I just wanted to get some feedback from everyone here on a few things, just to help me to plan things a little better.
A) What version of Bryce are you using? 2,3,4?
2) What area is the most difficult for you, and what would you like to really learn more about? Sky settings Terrains Creating Materials Boolean operations (The dreaded) Deep Texture Editor Lighting Animation
On a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being a newbie, and 5 being a Master Know-it-all, how would you rate your overall skills and knowledge with Bryce?
That's it- that'll give me some ground work to start in with. There's still a few things in Bryce that I know nothing about at all, so I'm up for exploring this stuff with a bunch of other people. What the heck- I can always use more knowledge.
Thanks for the feedback! Steve

Hmm...
1. Bryce 4. 2. Materials. Cannot seem to get anything that looks "normal/real" to come out of what I'm doing. The DTE scares me. :) I'm going through some of the BryceTalk logs (snagged them all ... :) to help with that.
As for my level of experience/expertise, I'd say a 2, moving steadily towards 3.

A. Bryce 4
B. DTE and creating materials are still very difficult items. Hints on the way you created some of your free materials would be tremendously helpful
I would rate myself somewhere around 2

A. Bryce 4.01
2. Creating Materials and DTE Actually all but these would be my first chooses. I'd rate myself at a 1 1/2 or maybe a 2 ( been using bryce 9 month now )

A: 4.01
2: haven't had patience to do much anim, so I'm pretty lacking there. a better understanding of sky/lighting stuff would be good
weighing the various areas and my knowledge, I've come up with an arbitrary 3.8 on the master know-it-all scale.

Hey Steve,
Love your numbering system, lol! OK, here's my survey answers:
A. Bryce 4 2. Creating Materials/Deep Texture Editor - they're neck in neck. Lastly, 1 - tomorrow is my 1-month anniversary of owning Bryce (or is it the other way around?) so I'm a pretty-darn-newbie.
Also wanted to say I really like the challenge idea. Participated in a weekly challenge at a Paint Shop Pro forum and it really helped me hone my skills with the software and was lots of fun, too. It would be great to do something like that with Bryce. Sounds like we're going to have a lot of fun and learn a lot around here, too. Great!
Regards,
Mike

Steve,
I am using Bryce 4(will be a year in August, I think). This is my first graphics program on my first computer. I am your basic all around newbie, with a few crashes here and there to bring me up to speed.
Well, let's see, the things I would like to learn most about in the order of importance to me would be: 1. Lighting--I have no clue, and would sure like to get one. 2. Creating Materials--I have experimented and come up with some pretty cool stuff, but again, I haven't a clue how I did it and I would like to purposely make some cool materials. 3. Deep-Texture Editor--same comment as #2. 4. Terrain--specifically the terrain editor, something using the KPT filters would be fun. 5. Sky settings and booleans--tied--no problems with these that I know of. 6. Animations--Haven't had time to figure this one out!
skills?... hmmmm.... on a good day, close to a 3, on a bad day, well, I just keep kerplunking along.
