In Tim Wilson's first two tutorials at Plug-In Central, we worked with displacement maps to provide the illusion of depth. In this third tutorial, Tim takes us through the 3D deformation controls that give FreeForm its name.

If you don't have a copy of Forge FreeForm, you can download a demo athttp://www.forge.net/

Have fun.

I saw the title "Bent, Warped and Twisted" by Tim Wilson and instantly though -- "'By' Tim Wilson -- no way! 'Is' Tim Wilson, yep!"

:-P

Hee, hee...

(Couldn't pass that up, Tim!)

When Chris sent me the "Bent, Warped and Twisted" footage files, I thought it was hilarious. The folks behind FreeForm really ARE bent warped and twisted, in the nicest way. You can really see their sense of humor all through this software.

As for me, I'm only too flattered to be held in the same insane esteem. :-)

I just wanted to say thanks to Tim Wilson for his tutorials. I haven't had a lot of time to spend learning this tool. But with Tim's tutorials I am starting to get a handle on this wonderful tool.

Thanks, Susan! I'm continually amazed at how rich a resource FreeForm is. It's so easy and fun to use, and I haven't even started to explore its more advanced capabilities myself.

Even just getting hold of the two basic concepts I'm talking about - displacement mapping and mesh deformation - will take you a long way toward creating fresh effects that would be impossible any other way.
