SUBJECT: newbie questionsI have begun working on a project which will require creating a metallic look to some objects. I hate sounding ignorant (but than I am on this subject) how do I create a mettalic "shine" to an object.

SUBJECT: Re: newbie questionsThis is fairly tough to answer without really knowing the kind of thing you have in mind. Do you have any examples up on the web?

SUBJECT: Re: newbie questionsNo, but I will come back when I do.
I am working on the family coat of arms (currently it looks awful). I was hoping for some guidance before I leapt into the unkown.

SUBJECT: Re: newbie questionsFor something like a coat of arms, spliting it's various elements across individual layers will make it far easier to add specular highlights.
I doubt there's really a cure-all filter solution for something like this - the most commonly highlights are added using the airbrush at varying levels of opacity, catching surface contours as you go. The trick is to not overdo it.

SUBJECT: Re: newbie questionsThere is no "magic" metallic filter in Satori. Even in Photoshop, this process involves several fiddly stages. However, I can point you at an excellent tutorial article by Craig Mullins on his website athttp://www.goodbrush.com
If the tutorial is still up on Craig's site, it gives very good guidance for handling reflections and reflective surfaces.
If the tutorial has disappeared from his site, contact me and I can send you copies of the images used to illustrate the tutorial.
Good luck with you coat of arms,
