The reason why the soft synths wouldn't play is because when I reinstalled Music Studio 8.0, I forgot to select the M-Audio Fast Trac Pro in the "external audio device preference" tab. DUHHHH !! Dumb is me.
I would like to comment on the M-Audio interface. I was having problems with latency, ie, recorded tracks not lining up with with other tracks in the project. The interface completely eliminated this problem !!! Also, I have my Roland keyboard hooked up thru the interface with analog and midi inputs. Also, a mic. So now I can record the keyboard (analog) and also use it as a controller for soth synths such as Native Intruments B-4 (B-3 Hammond sounds). I highly recommend the M-Audio Fast Trac Pro interface. It's about $200.00, but well worth it.
